Life cycle assessment of grass sports fields for the Association of Swiss Sports Authorities (follow-up study)

Based on the study “Life cycle assessment of turf sports fields: Natural, artificial and hybrid turf in the city of Zurich compared” by the ZHAW, Carbotech developed a follow-up study with findings valid for the whole of Switzerland. The results from Zurich were synthesised and the life cycle assessment was supplemented with a variant of artificial turf with cork infill. In addition, further environmentally relevant aspects that cannot be represented in life cycle assessments due to a lack of methodological foundations were supplemented by means of research and literature studies. One such aspect is, for example, the influence of microclimatic effects on the pitch and the surrounding area. Carbotech has written a report and prepared a fact sheet that summarises the most important findings on environmental impacts from an ecological point of view.
