Training in Life Cycle Assessments

We give training courses on the subjects of environmental management and Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) since 1993. We are pleased to see that the interest for the LCA method keeps on growing because we consider it a very valuable instrument for the analysis of ecological impact of products and services. However, there are drawbacks and potential pitfalls: the results highly depend on, e.g. allocation issues and always indicate a certain degree of imprecision because of a lack of reliable data. Therefore the order of magnitude and the LCA user’s values and views are more important than the decimal place of a number. This is why a central aspect of our training is the sensible use of the method, especially now that everyone can use free software and inventories for LCAs.
