LCA of engineering plastics and composite materials (High-tech materials)

Carbotech conducted a cradle-to-gate life cycle assessment (LCA) for the production of engineering plastic, such as ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMW-PE) and polyoxymethylene (POM-C) and composite materials. These high-tech materials are used in a wide range of applications, predominantly in the capital goods industry.
The environmental impact and the carbon footprint of the engineering plastic products were compared with the production of the same product at different manufacturing sites and by different manufacturing processes. In addition, the environmental impact and the carbon footprint of the equivalent products made from recycled material was also assessed and compared.
