In this project, we calculated and compared the environmental impacts of PHBV biopolymer, different modified bio-oils and a synthetic oil by means of a life cycle analysis. The aim was to answer the question of which bio-oil or binary mixture is preferable from an ecological point of view. We have considered the ecological impacts «from cradle to grave», i.e. the agricultural cultivation of the raw materials, the production and the disposal (end-of-life), including transport. The use phase war not taken into account. We have evaluated the environmental impacts using the European EF v3.1 method.
The results were part of a PhD thesis that examined the influence of bio-based additives on the mechanical properties of PHBV biopolymers.
