In the first phase of the project, we developed a sustainability strategy for the building department and calculated its environmental and climate footprint. We analysed the energy consumption of the buildings of the Directorate, the extensive vehicle fleet, procurement, employee mobility and catering. We also analysed the civil engineering projects commissioned by the Building Directorate.
The results of the environmental and climate footprint formed the basis for the development of a catalogue of measures. In workshops with those responsible for the various offices and other stakeholders, we compiled measures for various areas (energy, own vehicle fleet, procurement, mobility, etc.) and assessed their impact. A particular focus was placed on public procurement. We conducted interviews with those responsible for procurement and developed a catalogue of criteria for sustainable procurement in workshops. We then drew up a procurement guideline for the building department, which procurement officers can use to apply these criteria.
A recalculation of the environmental and climate footprint three years after the first assessment showed that the Building Directorate is on the right track to achieving its climate targets and has already been able to make improvements.
