We need results in climate protection. The Science Based Target initiative (SBTi) helps companies to set scientific climate targets and then stay on track to make them happen.
What are Science Based Targets?
The name says it all: “Science Based Targets” are science-based climate targets for companies. To become part of the initiative, companies must strive to achieve targets that limit global warming to below 2°C. And the SBTi checks whether the targets set are sufficient and are being met.
We believe that involvement in the SBTi makes sense, because:
- The targets are based on scientific findings. SBTi also reserves the right to adjust them based on new research findings. That is credible.
- SBTi only accepts absolute CO2 reductions and no “loopholes”, e.g. revenue-based targets. That is effective.
- The basis is the Paris Climate Agreement, which was signed by 195 parties. This means we are acting in line with the Swiss climate targets and are therefore well prepared for future changes.
Advantages:
The SBTi is an important step for companies to strengthen their climate strategy and make a positive contribution to global climate protection. The high level of credibility enables companies to position themselves as sustainable players in their respective industries and improve their risk profile.
Who is behind SBTi?
The SBTi is a partnership between several organisations, including the UN Global Compact, the WWF and the World Resources Institute. And, of course, all companies that join the initiative.
Get in touch with us. We’ll support you throughout the entire process – from the assessment of the current status to the implementation of measures. We’re also happy to model FLAG emission factors in accordance with SBTi or undertake a review of your existing corporate carbon footprint or reduction pathway.
